on the hunt

Fri Oct 30, 2009, 1:59 PM
So I bought a pair of shoes on a whim a few years back. I love wearing them--they're my favorite pair of shoes EVER. I've climbed mountain trails, wandered along the rim of the Grand Canyon, toured art museums, walked many, many miles in these shoes. They've seen me through many different jobs: janitor, summer camp staff, receptionist, book seller, artist. Obviously they've seen a little wear and are starting to fall apart, so I thought I'd go out and get another pair. Problem is, I can't find them ANYWHERE! Seriously, I've been to so many stores I've lost count and nobody has them in stock. Sure, they have other styles by the same brand...but not this particular shoe. I've looked online and have only found ONE listing for them, on Ebay...but not in my size. Sigh.
The wonderful, elusive shoe I'm looking for is the Saucony Shadow (NOT the Shadow 6000, that's a different style and fit). Why am I so determined to get these? I usually just buy whatever's on sale and am fine with that. I shop at thrift stores all the time. I'm not one to throw tons of money away on clothing.....but these are simply the best pair of shoes I've ever worn. And I have problems with my feet which make it very hard to find shoes that fit and feel comfortable and don't fall apart on me after a couple months (I can't just buy shoes online and hope they'll fit right). The pair I own, the soles have very little wearing out even after all this time.
Maybe, maybe I'll find a pair soon...

I wish I were a glow worm.

I've never seen this technique before! Very interesting, with layers underneath the varnish...
I also love it because it's colorful and happy!

I like making happy art--the world is already depressing enough, I think we need a little more cheer and beauty to go around.
:iconandthebus:
Your art is amazing!
I especially love the layered paintings.
What kind of medium do you use for the layers?
:iconpendulum-and-fire:
Thank you! Glad you like my stuff. :) I use two different things for the layers: polycrylic varnish (which you can get by the gallon at Home Depot) and clear tar gel. I prefer the tar gel, but it's harder to get in large quantities.
:iconandthebus:
Groovy! I'll have to try that.

Your gallery is beautiful! I love your style. :)
